Cat getting scratchy

My biggest fear about getting a cat was that he would scratch up and destroy my apartment.  Had my cat for a week and 1/2 and she has not shredded and completely destroyed things, so I'm sure it could be worse, however, she has scratched a hole in my favorite chair, leather jacket, bed, and my arm.  At the end of the day a cat is still an animal.  She is sweet and licks my arm and purrs but she still has animal instincts.  I have heard people say it is cruel to have a cat de-clawed, and so far the damage is minimal.  But I don't want her to scratch my neices and nephews, or further damage my furniture, so I'm not sure what I'm gonna do about it.  I've heard you can have a cat's claws groomed or something to make them smaller, gonna look into that.  Pissed as I am, I'm glad I don't have super nice things, she hasn't really ruined much, except my favorite chair that really has just a few small holes, not shredded.

Vet visit

Took my Cat to the Vet today.  That's a pretty scary thing to do.  She didn't like them sticking needles in her and putting stuff in her mouth but these things have to be done.  It gave me my first idea of what being a parent is probably like.  Now we are making sure she doesn't have worms and getting rid of her fleas, the fleas even affected me so I was glad this visit was done.  It's even more important to have an indoor/outdoor pet taken to the Vet but all pets should be taken yearly.  Which makes me wonder about people that have dozens of Cats and/or several Dogs.  Do these people take all the animals to the Vet?  My guess is some don't and that's too bad, as well as all the strays that never see a Vet.  There are so many health risks out in the wild and even on city streets that we should all make an effort to keep our pets contained and bring them to the Vet annually.

Cats

I have always liked Cats.  It's a bit surprising I have developed love for cats because I was traumatically attacked by a psychotic Cat when I was a young child.  I have gotten over it and for the most part Cats are just cuddly little fur-balls that like to eat and play.  I just adopted a Cat and she has been nothing but a little sweetie, meowing at me and purring and playing with shoestrings.  I will be interested to hear from all types of Cat owners on this blog, even the Cat hoarders and crazy Cat ladies with 100 Cats.  Normal people please post things as well.  It's important to get your Cats checked out by a Vet, I'm about to take mine in today, I hope she doesn't have any health problems I'm unaware of.
